K.R. Swerdfeger Construction, Inc. (KRSC) is an acknowledged leader in pipeline construction and renewal offering our customers a wide selection of technologies and services including:
Pipe Bursting - For those projects where the existing mainline pipe or service connection has significantly deteriorated or where a larger replacement pipe is required, we offer the pipe bursting technology in sizes from 6" to 24" and larger for special applications. Pipe Bursting is considered a less trench technology requiring excavations for pipe insertion and house service re-connections. Typically lower in cost than excavation and replacement, this technology offers our customers a less disruptive tool for pipeline reconstruction.
Pipe Reaming - Using HDD equipment existing pipes are replaced size for size or enlarged simply by reaming out the old worn-out pipe and replacing it with a new pipe. Ground surface around the existing pipe experiences minimal disturbance when the existing pipe materials are removed.
Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) - Installation of utilities today are most frequently accomplished using a variety of Directional Drilling equipment. Highway and street crossings, river crossings, utilities in urban environments, house service connections cable/telephone and many other applications are accomplished with minimal excavation using HDD. Offered by KRSC, this technology is a cost effective and efficient tool for new utility installations.
Pipe Ramming - When constructing utilities under roads, highways, irrigation ditches and other crossings where excavation is undesirable and line and grade is important, pipe ramming will do the job. Using a pneumatic hammer tool, a steel casing pipe is pneumatically pushed under the project crossing. Pipe ramming requires the excavation of a pushing pit and a receiving pit and will typically cut through and penetrate tough cobbled soils.
Auger & Rock Boring - When accurate line and grade is important Auger Boring, whether through rock or soil, is generally selected for installing water, gas, sewer, drain, cable and telephone under roads, canals, railroad rights-of-way and many other locations where conventional methods are highly disruptive and expensive.
Conventional Slip Lining - This technology, usually installed directly through manholes or an excavated pit, provides an economical technique for rehabilitating old deteriorated pipelines. Some reduction in pipe cross-section results but excavation is minimized when compared to conventional methods. By-pass pumping of the existing flows is usually significantly reduced. Replacement pipe can be HDPE, PVC, FRP or other project specific materials.
Internal Pipe Joint Seals - For projects where pipe wall condition is not a problem but the pipe joint is, KRSC provides a permanent leak-proof and flexible rubber internal mechanical joint sealing system for pipe sizes 16" to 208" and larger.
Point or Spot Repairs - Where full manhole to manhole pipe rehabilitation is not appropriate a cured-in-place point repair system is installed to repair local sewer and drain pipe damage such as cracking, joint damage and leaks. The epoxy-based system is economical, installed in a matter of hours and cures extremely well in moist or wet environments.
Utility Locating and Pot-holing - Using vacuum excavation techniques, our crews can verify the location of underground utilities with only a small slot opening. Typically used to locate water, sewer, gas, fiber optics, electric, cable, telephone, this technique virtually eliminates large, disruptive traditional excavations.
Manhole and Water and Wastewater Coatings - When a total system solution is required, manhole rehabilitation is performed by our crews using the Raven 100% solids epoxy system for repairing benches, walls, castings and the re-coating of walls. Applications with the both the Raven and Aquatapoxy systems include: industrial applications, WWTP, Pumping Stations, Water Tanks, Breweries etc.
Special Trenchless Rehabilitation Projects - With extensive in-house expertise, in a wide variety of trenchless techniques, KRSC is capable of evaluating proposed projects and recommending appropriate trenchless solutions, saving the customer needless disruptions while completing the project at substantial savings.
Design/Build and Turnkey Projects - Able to develop comprehensive planning, evaluation, design and construction solution programs that are results oriented for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of piping infrastructure systems.
